On my 3rd night in Zurich, I went to the so called āMiyuā (ē¾åŖ) Japanese pop up at the legendary Dolder Grand Hotel. Upon entering, the banners with cliche Japanese phrases immediately raises red flags. I ordered 4 pieces of nigiri and miso cod, and the dishes confirm the worries. The nigiri (8 CHF / piece) were solid but nothing special. The miso cod was 2 small pieces and taste-wise nowhere close to Nobu level and cost a whopping 64 CHF ($80 USD). The sake was a pour of a junmai daiginjo for 40 CHF. The server only poured what felt like 30 cc (or 3 tiny sips), only to apologize after the meal that she miscalculated the amount and gave me the rest. Total bill came out to be 143 CHF ($175 USD). This restaurant is most comparable to Pabu in SF (mid business lunch Japanese restaurant), but costs 3x as much. Now Iām on my at for some McDonalds. Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 4

Visited on a Friday evening. My request for a window table was accommodated straight away ā a lovely first impression. The meal was bookended beautifully: bread arrived first, with several amuse-bouches following shortly after, and a pre-dessert from the kitchen followed the final course ā a lovely touch before the praline trolley. The bread itself was excellent, as was the butter. The pacing was lively from the start, with the first course arriving promptly after the amuse-bouches. The rhythm between courses settled in nicely as the evening progressed. One small note: a non-alcoholic pairing was not offered ā something I would have appreciated. Now, the food. The hake with white asparagus, caviar, and asparagus ice cream was absolutely fantastic. The Wagyu cheeks with potato foam were equally outstanding, as was the milk ice cream with elderflower. The mid-meal bread selection was superb. The finale was a real highlight: a praline trolley ā reminiscent of the legendary trolleys at Steirereck in Vienna. The chocolate with cherry was exceptional, and the signature praline, which crackles in your mouth like those ice cream from childhood, was a joy. At the end of the evening, Chef Heiko Nieder came to the table personally to ask how the meal had been ā a thoughtful and genuinely warm gesture. Two minor practical notes: the toilets require leaving the restaurant and going down a floor ā not the most elegant solution for an establishment of this level. And while I was seated at a window table, the chairs are positioned in a way that makes it nearly impossible to actually look outside without craning your neck ā which is a particular shame given the spectacular view. All in all, a truly excellent evening. The menu was fantastic from start to finish, the service warm and attentive without ever feeling stiff or elitist ā exactly the kind of atmosphere I personally love in a Michelin-starred restaurant. Minor details aside ā the missing non-alcoholic pairing and the table orientation ā this was a very accomplished dinner at a very high level. Iād recommend it to anyone who gets the chance. One fun observation: I spotted a chef from another Zurich Michelin-starred restaurant ā one I had visited just the week before ā dining there as a guest. Always a good sign when fellow starred chefs choose to eat at your table. American Express was excepted. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner

Dear guestThank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and detailed review of your evening at The Restaurant. We are truly delighted to read how much you enjoyed the experience as a whole ā from the window table arrangement at the start of the evening to the natural flow of the menu throughout. It is a particular pleasure to know that so many elements left a lasting impression, including, of course, Heiko Nieder's personal visit to your table. Creating an atmosphere of genuine excellence is something we care deeply about, and we are equally pleased that you experienced our service as warm, attentive and unpretentious. Your kind words are a wonderful compliment to our entire team and were received with great joy.Your suggestion for a non-alcoholic pairing is a valuable one and will certainly be discussed internally.Furthermore, your closing observation made us smile ā one could indeed consider it a quiet compliment when fellow starred chefs choose a neighbouring table. We very much look forward to welcoming you back for another memorable evening at one of our five restaurants at the Dolder Grand.Warm regardsChristoph PentzlinDirector of Food & Beverage
