Restaurant Adlisberg is beautifully located on the edge of the forest, right next to the Dolder Hotel. The setting is undeniably charming, with its rustic farmhouse style and cozy, old-fashioned dining rooms. It has all the ingredients for a memorable Swiss dining experience — unfortunately, the food fell short of expectations. My mom ordered the Wiener Schnitzel, priced at a staggering CHF 52. What arrived was likely the worst schnitzel I have ever seen in a restaurant. The breading was flimsy, bland, burnt in places, and detached from the meat at the first touch of the fork. At that price point, it felt almost insulting. I had the Zürcher Geschnetzeltes, which was good in terms of flavor and sauce. Sadly, the accompanying Rösti was overcooked and tasted burnt. When I asked for mayonnaise, I was given a tiny portion, which I had to request again when the others also wanted some with the fries. My partner chose the hot stone chicken, which turned out to be little more than a single piece of chicken (bone-in) with three small sauces, for CHF 40. For that price, one would expect something a little more elevated. Dessert was sold to us by the waiter as a molten “lava” chocolate cake, warm with a liquid center. What arrived was overbaked and dry, with no lava in sight — another disappointment. Compared to other Germanic or Mediterranean countries where you can enjoy generous portions of high-quality food at fair prices, Swiss gastronomy often feels meager and overpriced, and restaurant Adlisberg is no exception.
