Grandhotel Giessbach was honestly one of the most magical places I have ever stayed. The hotel itself is this incredible grand old building that feels like you have stepped straight back into another time. It is not modern and flashy, and that is exactly what makes it so special. The whole time I felt like I had been transported back to 1910. The location is unbelievable. It is tucked away in its own little part of the forest, overlooking the lake, with the waterfall right beside it. At night it was so peaceful that we slept with the balcony doors open and could hear the waterfall flowing outside. It is hard to explain how beautiful and calming that was. Every morning at 6am we went walking on the trails around the hotel. There was nobody else around, just us, the forest, the waterfall and the lake. It made the place feel like it belonged only to us for a while, and those early morning walks were some of my favourite moments of the whole trip. There was no kettle or fridge in the room, which normally would annoy me, but somehow I did not care. It almost added to the feeling that we were staying in another era. This was not just a nice hotel stay. The whole place had a feeling about it that I will never forget. We loved it so much that we are already seriously thinking about going back.
