Konditorei-Confiserie Gilgen is pure “everything looks irresistible” in the best possible way. It’s right in Basel’s Old Town on Spalenberg, and the classic storefront and window display already pull you in before you even step inside.  The selection is fantastic: beautifully made pastries and cakes, biscuits, chocolates, and local specialties. It’s the kind of traditional Swiss bakery where you can tell things are made with care and experience — not mass-produced. Gilgen has a long-standing reputation in Basel and is known for handmade products and classics like Basler Läckerli, plus seasonal favorites (their plum tart gets mentioned for a reason).  A big plus is that it’s perfect for a quick stop while sightseeing: grab something sweet (or a small savory bite), add a coffee-to-go, and continue your walk without losing time. It’s primarily a takeout-style spot rather than a sit-down café, so it works especially well when you just want something excellent on the move.  In short: seriously delicious, classic Basel bakery vibes, and absolutely worth it if you want a real treat in the city center.
