I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the Base Bar in Lausanne, Switzerland. We visited Base Bar in the Flon district with a group of about twelve people to attend a pop-rock concert by High 5. The atmosphere was great and the sound quality was surprisingly good, which made the concert very enjoyable. Parking is relatively easy: there are a few spots right next to the bar when entering the Flon area, otherwise it’s better to park on Avenue de Sévelin just above. From there, stairs or an elevator take you directly down to the level of the bar. We also took the opportunity to have some food and drinks. We tried the beef tartare and the Valaisan burger with raclette cheese and dried meat. Both dishes were decent but fairly ordinary — good enough, though nothing memorable. This is clearly not a place you visit mainly for the food. Service was a bit slow, probably due to the large crowd, but the staff remained friendly. Overall, the lively atmosphere and good live music setup make Base Bar a nice spot for a night out with friends. Price per person: CHF 50–60 Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4

Thank you for your feeback and for visiting us during the High 5 concert. We're glad you enjoyed the amosphere and the warm welcome from our team. However, we must say that your comment "This is clearly not a place you visit mainly for the food" stoked us. We put a lot of effort into our menu, burgers and tartares are usually among our most appreciated dishes. We also take great care in selecting our ingredients, for the Valaisan burger, for example, the dried meat comes directly from Valais, while the raclette cheese is sourced from the Val d'Hérens. On one hand we perfectly know that our restaurant offers delicious traditionnal food but on the other hand we do not pretend to be a gastronomic restaurant. We would happy to welcome you back and show you other dishes that might better match your expectations.
