What does a lawyer call his bar? I recently had the pleasure of visiting the "Baragraph" at Barfüsserplatz in Basel and was thoroughly impressed. The bar's name, "Baragraph", is a clever play on words by owner Dr. Vitto, a lawyer, who alludes to both the legal industry with “Paragraph” and the bar experience with “Bar”. This word game creates a unique combination of intellectual discourse and relaxed sociability. Vitto is an amazing personality - friendly, engaging and clever - and contributes a lot to the charm of this place. The service is another crucial point that contributed to my extremely positive experience. Alex, the waitress, is completely in control of the bar and brings a remarkable energy to the room with her cheerful and open nature. She has the rare pleasure of making her guests feel welcome and valued, and it is obvious that she is very popular with the clientele. As a non-smoker, I particularly appreciated the clever decision to locate the spacious smoker on the upper floor. This thoughtful arrangement allows all guests to fully enjoy their stay, regardless of their personal preferences. The music played in the "Baragraph" is always relaxed and helps to create an exceptionally relaxed atmosphere that is ideal for an after-work beer. The entire atmosphere, combined with the excellent service and interesting company, creates a welcoming ambience to which one will be happy to return. Overall, the "Baragraph" exceeded all my expectations and I would strongly recommend anyone visiting Basel to visit it. It's rare for a bar to so effortlessly provide a space for relaxation and intellectual conversation and I look forward to many more visits in the future. Five shining stars for “Baragraph”.
