BaoBae is a modern Chinese restaurant that takes classic recipes from across the country and often gives them a little twist, so they fit in just right with Zurich's trendy food scene. The result is a flavor explosion and my only complaint is that it's too hard to choose from all the tantilizing dishes on the menu -- next time I'll have to try the Omakase! Special shout-out tomthe two star plates of the night for me -- the Hamachi tartare, accompanied by a perfect truffle soy sauce and super crispy rice crackers, and the Summer dessert, an almond soy Panna Cotta-like dish (but WAY better than Panna Cotta!), with delicious macerated strawberries and fresh wasabi leaves The staff, like at every one of Chef Dan's spots, are just lovely. They welcome you with a smile, make you feel at home, walk you through the menu whenever you need help, and elevate your dining experience just by being part of it. Thanks for your hospitality and delicious food!!!!!!

We visited to celebrate my friend’s birthday. We’ve both been to Old Inn and Chifa before and were really looking forward to trying BAOBAE, so maybe our expectations were a bit high. Overall, the food felt a bit unbalanced and lacking in flavor. Since we’re both from Taipei, we were curious about the chicken schnitzel and asked if it was authentic. The staff mentioned it was one of the original Taiwanese dishes, but unfortunately it was quite disappointing. The coating was thicker than the chicken itself, and it tasted like the oil wasn’t very fresh. We shared feedback but didn’t really get a response, which was a bit surprising. Service was otherwise friendly and helpful. The staff explained the concept well and gave helpful recommendations. However, since I mentioned it was a birthday, I was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t any small gesture or option beyond the three desserts on the menu. Our schnitzel recipe is in fact based on an authentic Taiwanese-style preparation, and many Taiwanese guests have shared very positive feedback about it, which is why we were especially sorry to hear it didn’t come across that way during your visit.
