This is the ¨Indian¨ restaurant to go to if one is tired of the usual ¨curry chicken, beef, veg, fish/seafood maybe; tandoori chicken, beef, veg, fish/seafood maybe; korma beef, veg, fish/seafood maybe; biryani beef, veg, fish/seafood maybe¨ etc. etc. etc. Firstly the Indus is more Pakistan (true Indus Valley) than India. Secondly, the proprietor has a unique background which shows up in his approach: raised and well educated in Geneva, he left a typical high career in private banking for the hospitality business. Thirdly dishes are all freshly cooked from the homemade chilli to a long simmered mango + milk desert to the mint tea (no tea bags here). The Indus avoids the added sugar and salt used in modern cooking (in ancient days, salt and sugar were expensive). I am diabetic and it showed in my blood sugar. Interestingly hotness levels are intelligently moderated for local tastes (as any ex-backpacker in India or Singapore would testify, in situ Indian food can be painfully hot). Anglo-Indian favourites such as Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala are offered, and are popular. But perhaps classically ¨too hot¨ dishes (three chilis) might be interesting. I am looking forward to trying their Vindaloo (a dish I have feared for decades), as well as a surprisingly large selection of agneau dishes (often euphemized as ¨mutton¨ or ¨goat¨ in situ). Prices are perhaps higher than the norm. But well worth it for those liking exotic foods and used to the usual offerings. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
