Taverna Pretoriana is a small family-run restaurant located in a quiet side street ten minutes' walk from Termini train station. The place has both indoor and outdoor dining and the atmosphere is rustic, informal and familiar. The place invites you to love and enjoy food. We are quickly seen by a pleasant older gentleman who welcomes us and presents the menu, as well as takes the drink order. The menu has an Italian touch and is extensive but exciting. Here you can find everything from pasta, pizza to meat, fish and salads. Before we can order anything, the employee brings two plates of a small bruschetta with tomato as a tasty amuse-bouche, which helps to lift the first impression. We chose to order respectively prosciutto e melone for starters, pizza diavola and spaghetti carbonara for main course and tiramisu for dessert. The appetizer was served after a few minutes and had a simple but inviting presentation. The prosciutto was locally produced and tasted excellent. The Galia melon was sweet and went very well with the salty ham. Overall, the dish was a very good start to what was to turn out to be a good meal. The main courses were served shortly after we finished and had a simple rustic presentation, which is typical of Italian cuisine. Pizza Diavola had a thin homemade base, with a tasty tomato sauce, good cheese and three large slices of strong Italian salami. The pizza had clean and good flavors and seemed to be made with love, local and fresh ingredients. The portion of spaghetti carbonara also had a simple presentation with clean and good flavours. The spaghetti was al dente and had a good taste. Cured pork jock was used in the dish instead of ham, which, together with the delicious and tasty cheese, helped top off the experience. The spaghetti carbonara dish was by far one of the best carbonaras I have eaten. The tiramisu that should have helped top off the meal was unfortunately a bit dry and didn't seem quite fresh. However, the taste was very good and the dessert as a whole was very good, almost like an expensive confection. The staff were present throughout the meal and followed up in a pleasant and familiar manner. You almost got the feeling of being part of the family and when the employee shook hands and thanked us for the visit, we were left with the impression that we had created a friendship. You rarely experience Italian passion, love and desire for food. Based on this, we will visit the place again and can strongly recommend it to others. Here you get good, simple, homemade Italian food at its best together with a large dose of love.v Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: €10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
