Abbiamo lasciato quasi tutto...ai bimbi nn son piaciuti i piatti...le tre stelle vanno al personale che ĆØ stato molto gentile

We ate at the Steakhouse Old Town in Zurich for my 60th birthday. The first thing that was evident was they have no table booking system. I rang up some weeks before and booked a table and the guy assured me it was booked. On the day of my birthday I still had not received any confirmation of my booking, so I phoned up again and was told that they had no record of my booking. But they informed me a table was available at my preferred time. When we arrived it was very clear why tables were available as the restaurant was empty and again they had no record of my table booking. Actually, I say the restaurant was empty but that is not totally correct as there was a large number of flies flying around our table. The staff were totally unconcerned until I got up and swotted a load of flies with the napkin from the table and then they came over and swotted a load more; but that really spoiled to meal for me and indeed the occasion of my birthday. But letās get to the food - the starter (yellow fin tuna Tataki) and the dessert (Old Town Coffee ice and Whiskey Sundae) were really tasty and I really enjoyed them. But what should have been the star of the meal ā¦.. the steaks were a āhugeādisappointment. When I pay 60 CHF for my steak I expect it to be cooked to my choice I.E medium or medium rare. But what they do in Steakhouse OldTown is to put the steak on a hot stone and bring it to your table and then you are expected to cook the steak to your preference. Trouble is when they bought my steak over it was sizzling so much the hot oil was stinging my arms - that aside when you finish cooking the steak you are supposed to put the steak to the left of the hot stone. Problem is the hot stone is still there and itās problematic to eat with the hot stone in front of you. But what really irritated me was the staff gave no explanation about the hot stone method of serving the steak when we were ordering. Lastly my T Bone steak was extremely fatty and yes I know this can be the case with T Bone but the fat content was excessive. So over all not a great experience and really spoilt my 60th birthday. The total bill was 184 CHF which for such bad experience was very expensive. I shall not be returning to this restaurant and yes lessons learned I shall make sure that if I see hot stone on a menu in a different restaurant I will either order something else or go to an alternative restaurant.
