Before eating, I went to the restroom. After I had returned to our table in the outdoor seating area, a member of staff came over and accused me, in front of my companion, of having left the toilet dirty. He explained that the cleaning staff had just cleaned the restrooms and claimed that I was supposedly the only guest who had used them since then.
As I knew for certain that I had left the toilet clean, I asked him to show me the alleged mess. We went to the restrooms together. There, he showed me a dirty toilet – however, it was not the toilet I had used.
I then showed him the toilet I had actually used, which was clean. Despite this, the employee continued to insist that no one else could have used the restrooms since they had been cleaned. This claim made no sense to me, as the dirty toilet was clearly a different one from the toilet I had used.
Both my companion and I pointed this out to him. However, there was no apology for the clearly false accusation. Instead, he continued to stand by his version of events.
I found it extremely unpleasant and disrespectful to be accused, without any reliable evidence, of leaving a toilet dirty – and then not even receive an apology once the situation had been clarified.
It is a great shame, because the food itself was actually good. However, the way I was treated ruined the restaurant visit for me, and I was unable to enjoy the meal afterwards.
From a restaurant, and especially from its service staff, I would have expected at least a sincere apology in a situation like this.
