SCAM!!!! DO NOT GO UNLESS YOU WANT TO EAT WELL PRESENTED CAFETERIA FOOD FOR OVER 100€ PER PERSON!! We stayed at this hotel for two nights and had dinner at Lago on Monday, July 20. It was an absolute disgrace and one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've ever had. Let's start with the only positives: the setting is beautiful, and the service was acceptable at best. Despite having around ten waiters serving only about fifteen tables, the overall organization was surprisingly poor. Now for the food, which was simply unacceptable. There were six of us, and four wanted to order the daily special. Amazingly, less than ten minutes after it had been presented to us, we were told it was already sold out. How does that even happen in a restaurant of this supposed standard? The cooking was bland, uninspired, and completely disconnected from the prices being charged. The vitello tonnato was decent but extremely basic. At €38, it's a joke. Countless restaurants in the area serve a version of the same quality for a fraction of the price. The €42 paccheri were laughable. They looked and tasted like pasta with supermarket tomato sauce: acidic, bland, with no depth, no richness, no Parmesan, no basil, and a tiny spoonful of flavorless stracciatella on top. Charging €42 for that is simply unacceptable. The €36 parmigiana was even worse: half an eggplant covered with melted mozzarella and three completely tasteless sauces. If I had cooked that at home, I honestly wouldn't have wanted to eat it. The fish fillet was overcooked and dry. The final bill came to over €700 for six people, yet the food was closer to cafeteria quality than to what anyone would expect from a luxury hotel restaurant. This restaurant seems to be relying entirely on its location and the reputation of the hotel rather than the quality of its kitchen. The prices are outrageous for what is served. The chef seriously needs to rethink the menu or leave because the current standard is nowhere near worthy of this establishment. A beautiful setting cannot make up for food this mediocre. We left feeling completely ripped off and would never recommend Lago to anyone. If you actually want outstanding Italian food, skip Lago and go to Cera Bistrot next door instead. We had dinner there the night before, and the difference was unbelievable. Every dish was packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and fairly priced. It was easily 100 times better than Lago at roughly half the price. That's what a real Italian fine dining experience should be. Ristorante Lago provided my wife and I the best dining experience in our lives. This was our first time in the Lake Como area, and we thoroughly enjoyed the amazing food, service, and elegant ambiance. The staff was also very accommodating to our 2 year old child as well. Highly recommend! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner
