I love Zermatt for many reasons (the Gornergrat, the Matterhorn, that river right through town, the wandering sheep and goats) but I sure don’t love the street (the shops, the crowds). The Hotel Pollux was more Gornergrat/Matterhorn than loud, brusque stream of humans. It was quiet and calm and friendly in the lobby, the rooms were very pleasing visually, the sauna was HOT, the breakfast varied and delicious, and the beds really comfortable. I appreciated a family room especially and my daughters loved having their room AND bath (great touch, Hotel P). Sure I could hear the street at night (boo street, yet again) but that’s what Calm sleep stories are for, and what’s the hotel to do, anyway? Also appreciated the drink vouchers (hike, heat, hops) and afternoon tea and cakes (but especially the vouchers). In all, really expensive but so is everything in Switzerland, right? and I could mostly insulate myself from the crowds and the designer shops and relax. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5
