There are many excellent restaurants in Basel, but if you are someone who appreciates innovative, complex, and delicious food and a local restaurant so exceptional that it has daily regulars, look no further than Petite Flambeuse. There is an amazing team at work here both in the kitchen and serving tables. The head chef/owner (my cousin, I proudly acknowledge!) creates a new menu every week, and utilizes herbs and spices to bring an incredible depth of flavor that I haven’t experienced elsewhere in Basel. Crispy sage leaves, crunchy roasted hazelnuts, and toasted spices enhanced the side of roasted carrots I enjoyed with a creamy polenta - and that is just one example! Because of the unique magic of the ever-changing menu, including vegetarian options, you will find yourself here again and again. Don’t forget to ask about dessert, and check out the best Basel lackerli in town! The vibe is casual, relaxed and comfortable. A guète and bon appétit! (Note: You can catch the bus outside the train station and it will drop you off right at the restaurant — exit Erasmus; or, take the #11 tram to Johanitabrucke and walk across the bridge.)
