We chanced upon this property when we were looking for a stay on lake Brienz. When we booked this hotel we scarcely recognized the history and significance of Grandhotel Giessbach. Our 10 minute journey to Giessbach was from Brienz by boat. This seems the best way to reach here. There is a historical funicular next to the pier which takes you to the hotel and waterfall. As the funicular approaches the property you realise the grandeur and beauty of this hotel. The property is steeped in nearly 150 years of history and takes you back into a different Era. This has been a truly unique experience. The hotel overlooks the beautiful Giessbach falls. One has to truly marvel at the vision and thought of the founders of this unique property. It is difficult to explain and one has to stay a night here to truly go back in time and a different Era. It is also possible to just visit the property and enjoy a light meal and drink on the terrace overlooking spectacular waterfall. This is a must visit to your itinerary to the interlaken and jungfrau region.
