After looking at Seebad Utoquai, have a meal at Latino. Italian and Mediterranean cuisines are what this bar boasts. Latino Bistro has reopened with a bold new concept: Filipino-Italian fusion. The space still features the same furniture as the previous bistro, though the table layout feels awkward—some tables are oddly placed, especially near the entrance and closet. Reception was underwhelming, but the service was attentive and friendly. The food was decent, with well-prepared and well-seasoned individual components. However, the fusion concept didn’t quite hit the mark. For example, the short rib was tender and flavorful, but the peanut butter sauce meant to evoke “Kare Kare” didn’t blend well and felt out of place. A creative attempt with room to grow. We went with a group of six. Luckily, we got a round table in the corner because there it was less noisy than in the rest of the place. The tiled floor looks nice together with the interior from the past but it does not help the noise levels. The salad was small and uninspiring and so was the pasta. Paccheri with squid ragout and Belper Knollen (cheese). Where was the cheese? The “cheapest” glass of wine is 13.- and food prices are also on the limit. The Restaurant Latino has consistently delivered delicious high quality food and service over the more than 10 years I have been going there. One of the best in Zurich.
