We stayed at Hotel Miramare the last week of October for our honeymoon, and had no idea of Ristorante La Scalinatella on the property until our stay. We had the 5 course tasting menu, and it was fantastic. The view from the restaurant cannot be beat. It is one of the few places where you do not trade-off quality food for the view. Only after our first dinner at the restaurant did we realize it was so highly recommended on TripAdvisor and other travel websites, but we can see why. Even if you do not plan to enjoy dinner, the same views of Positano can be enjoyed from the bar at the restaurant for a quick drink. Food/tasting menu and drinks were great, views were great, and staff were very friendly. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We stayed at Hotel Miramare a few weeks ago and though the hotel itself is now one of our favorites in the world, we were underwhelmed by La Scalinatella for dinner. We opted for the 4 course tasting menu and though, all dishes were "good", not one dish really stood out or had any "wow" factor. Yes, the service was very good and the view spectacular but our favorite thing we ate was the bread. We expected more from a fine dining restaurant at this price. As other reviewers have mentioned, it felt like they are trying to be something they are not. We tried a tasting menu at a different Positano restaurant one of our other nights and though it did not have the views of La Scalinatella, the food was far more inventive and delicious. Service was great and restaurant setting and view were nice, but all four in our group were extremely disappointed with the food. This was the most disappointing meal during our entire holiday and unfortunately also the most excessively expensive but for no reason. It actually turned into an ongoing joke for the remainder of our holiday. We ordered the five-course tasting menu and the whole thing felt very contrived. They try very hard to be fine dining and that was how waitstaff described the tasting menus several times. Not one dish stood out and I would not describe any as good. All were just okay. At the prices listed, we expected more. Complete and utter waste of money and brought down our last evening in Positano. The saving grace was the staff were very lovely and attentive and that is the only reason why I have rated two stars. We were also given a complimentary dessert to celebrate a birthday, which was very nice of them to offer. However, by then, we were just ready to go and did not even want to finish off the courses that arrived. We overheard some guests mention how great the food was at two tables and there were other tables that did not seem thrilled with their meals. Perhaps the food was just not to our tastes or we ordered the wrong tasting menu. Either way, we left extremely embarrassed at how much was spent for what was served. Should have trusted the bad reviews noting how pretentious the restaurant and lackluster the food is. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: €100+ Food: 1 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
