I found astonishing that they charge a 3.5e coperto (already twice as expensive as most of the other restaurants around) to a 20-month baby. Food: 4 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1 Price per person: €30–40

This place single handedly consoled me with Stresa. Stresa is packed with tourists. And that comes with the most despicable class of restaurants: Those that only want your money and don't care at all about how you feel afterwards. The food AND service at a restaurant should together send you off into the night feeling at a high. And exactly that was the case for us when we visited La Piola. The night before, we had a very disappointing evening at Osteria Mercato: Very bland food and a service that made you feel you were only a nuisance on their way to the next table and the table after that. I was feeling very down because of that, so my hopes were kind of low when we arrived at La Piola without a reservation. But boy were we in for a treat. It was basically the other side of the spectrum from the night before: Excellently cooked food coupled with a service that effortlessly made you feel right at home. We had antipasti, risotto, lasagna, ravioli, three different deserts, and five glasses of wine. All excellent. Thank you for a great night. You definitely have to come here when in Stresa. Especially when feeling let down by other restaurants in town. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: €30–40 Kid-friendliness: Very friendly staff.
