I have travelled extensively over more than 40 years, dining in restaurants ranging from small family-run places to Michelin three-star establishments. This is my honest review of the restaurant l’Olivier du Sacré-Cœur in Geneva, Switzerland. A very pleasant find just a few steps from the Grand Théâtre de Genève — and likely an especially convenient option once the theatre reopens. The restaurant has a charming, shaded little terrace that is perfect for lunch, as well as a nicely decorated interior with well-spaced tables, making it comfortable for quieter or more private conversations. The kitchen offers very good value for money considering the location. We particularly enjoyed the burger: excellent-quality meat, delicious homemade bread, a generous portion of homemade fries, and a very tasty cheese combination that seemed to mix raclette-style cheese with perhaps a touch of goat cheese. The beef tartare was also interesting, with an Asian-fusion inspiration. It could perhaps have used a little more spice, but was nevertheless very enjoyable. Service was friendly and attentive throughout. The opening hours are quite flexible: outside the main lunch and dinner service periods, the venue operates more as a place for drinks, with aperitifs possible from around 6:30 pm and drinks served until midnight. Overall, a very nice address combining good food, reasonable prices, a pleasant atmosphere and an excellent location near the Grand Théâtre.
