I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant GOODWIN the Steak House in Geneva not far from the central train station, close to the lake. We came here as a group of five and shared several dishes, and overall had a very good experience. The welcome was warm and we felt very well looked after throughout the evening. Different servers regularly checked in with us, and even though there was a small mistake with one of the side dishes, it was immediately corrected with the right one. Service was attentive and friendly. The meats were all cooked exactly as requested and were simply delicious. Among the starters, we particularly enjoyed the beef carpaccio with parmesan shavings and arugula, made with high-quality beef. The house salad “Goodwin” was also very good, with mushrooms and cured meat (I believe it was coppa). The bread was warm and tasty, even if not homemade. The beef tartare was excellent, though the seasoning could not be customized. From the main courses, I especially enjoyed the Chateaubriand and the T-bone, both of which had great flavor, were well-seasoned, and of very good quality. The side dishes and sauces were all delicious—we tried sweet potato fries, grilled vegetables, and five different steak sauces, all of which complemented the meat perfectly. For dessert, we shared the thin apple tart with raspberry ice cream, served with a light custard sauce. The apples were nicely caramelized, the crust fine and crisp, and the warm-cold balance worked very well. The atmosphere was made even more special by a talented young pianist playing during the evening. His performance created a very pleasant ambiance (perhaps a slightly larger repertoire would make it even better). The decoration of the restaurant is also worth mentioning, with original acrobat-shaped light fixtures, mirrors, and photos that make the place both stylish and cosy. Overall, this was a very enjoyable dinner with only minor points for improvement. I would definitely recommend this steakhouse for both the quality of the food and the atmosphere.
