A True Gem in Engelberg – An Absolute Must-Visit! If you are visiting Engelberg, you absolutely cannot miss Chäs im Kloster. Our visit here was easily one of the absolute highlights of our time in the area! From the moment you walk into the beautifully designed, modern shop set against the stunning historic stone walls, you feel incredibly welcome. The staff here are exceptionally kind, warm, and passionate about what they do. Since the selection of authentic Swiss cheeses is so vast and impressive, we relied entirely on their recommendations—and they did not disappoint! They took the time to guide us through different flavor profiles, making the entire experience feel personal and special. The Food Everything we tasted was of the absolute highest quality: The Cheese Platter: A masterpiece of local flavors. Beautifully presented with thoughtful pairings like walnuts, dried figs, and a fantastic Tomaten Konfi (tomato jam) in the center. Every single cheese selected for us—from the rich, crystalized Sbrinz Gerschni to the beautifully textured Gerschni Alp rezent and the smooth Weisser Stanser—was sensational. The Fondue: You cannot visit a place like this without trying the fondue, and it was incredible. Rich, perfectly smooth, and packed with deep, authentic flavor. It is exactly what you crave when you're in the Swiss Alps—pure comfort in a pot. The Cheese Wähe (Chaswähe): We also tried a slice of their traditional Swiss cheese tart. It was served warm, perfectly baked with a golden, bubbly cheese crust on top and a wonderfully savory, rich filling. Whether you are a lifelong cheese lover or trying authentic Swiss specialties for the first time, the incredible hospitality and premium quality here make it a 5-star experience.

What a delight to find this amazing store full of delicious cheese, milk, eggs, wine and meats! We had the best fondue from here and the staff is so very helpful. A definite must when coming to town!
