I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the cafe restaurant du Grütli in Plainpalais, Geneva, Switzerland (not far from the opera house). I only stopped by for a drink this time, on a beautiful sunny autumn afternoon. The terrace is perfectly aligned with the late-day sun — a great spot to enjoy the light and warmth. The street is very quiet, with almost no traffic, which makes it even more pleasant. The atmosphere is a bit on the artistic, slightly anarchist side — but in a charming and genuine way that gives the place real character. Service was friendly and efficient, mostly run by young staff who seemed to enjoy what they do. I had a hot ginger juice, freshly made with real ginger, and it was excellent — refreshing and comforting at the same time. Prices are quite reasonable. I can’t comment on the food, but for a relaxed drink in the sun with a nice local feel, this café is definitely worth a stop.
