We recently had lunch at Café de Peney, just outside Geneva, and it turned out to be exactly the kind of place we love discovering as a family with a baby. Located in a peaceful, almost countryside-like setting near the Rhône, this restaurant has a long-standing reputation for traditional Swiss-French cuisine, and you really feel that sense of authenticity the moment you walk in. The interior is warm and simple, with wooden details, soft light coming through the windows, and a calm, unpretentious atmosphere that immediately made us feel comfortable. We went for the menu, which I have to say is very well priced for the quality offered. It felt like one of those honest, well-executed menus where everything is done properly without trying too hard. We started with asparagus, which was fresh and nicely presented, with a simple but refined balance of flavors. For the main course, we had chicken in a creamy sauce with vegetables, and it was exactly what you want from this type of cuisine: comforting, well-cooked, and generous without being heavy. The dessert was a chocolate fondant served with a fruit sorbet, and it was a perfect ending—warm, indulgent, but still light enough thanks to the freshness of the sorbet. What really made the experience stand out for us, though, was how easy and pleasant it was to be there with our baby. The space between tables was sufficient to comfortably place a stroller without feeling like we were in the way, which is not always the case in more traditional restaurants. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed, which helped a lot, especially during lunch when you want your baby to stay peaceful. We never felt rushed, and the pacing of the service was very well adapted to a family rhythm. The staff were kind and discreet, and while not overly demonstrative, they were attentive in a natural, effortless way. We didn’t feel judged or stressed for being there with a baby, which, as any parent knows, can completely change the experience. It felt like a place where families are welcome without it being explicitly a “family restaurant,” which I personally appreciate a lot. Overall, Café de Peney is one of those places that strikes a very nice balance: good, honest food, a charming and calm environment, and a level of comfort that works very well when you’re dining with a baby. We left feeling relaxed, satisfied, and already thinking that we would happily come back. I would absolutely recommend it, especially for parents who want to enjoy a proper meal without compromising on comfort when dining with a baby.
