This restaurant was one of the highlights of our trip to Switzerland. The family who owns it are some of the kindest people you will ever meet. The food was thoughtful and delicious. Thoughtful in the sense that you can tell it's made with care. We had the most mouthwatering onion gravy with our bratwurst and our salad was filled with several different kinds of fruit and veggies. We were sitting at the outdoor space when a rainstorm swept by. We were welcomed inside where our kids were overjoyed to find a piano and baskets of toys in the corner. (The wonderful outdoor playground is also worth mentioning as it has a mini cable car for the kids to play with.) Hinterbergen is a little hamlet within the Vitznau municipality. The best way to get here is by a cable car. During the day, there is a cable car operator. But when there isn't, the cable car is self-serve. The cable car itself is owned by a small co-op of local farmers. Hinterbergen is also the name of this delightful restaurant AND the name of the street it's on. The street "Hinterbergen" is actually a private road only meant for residents and authorized vehicles. I've submitted a request for Google Maps to be updated. If you're up for a little adventure, want to meet kind humans, and need a resting place before an epic hike along the ridge, then take the cable car up to this special restaurant!
