What a pleasant surprise! My wife and I were told about this place by some friends who live in Rome (we live in a village about an hour and a half away). I am a retired American and lived in New York City where there are thousands of great restaurants, many of which I have been to. So they thought I would appreciate it. We have been there twice in the past few weeks and can’t say enough about the food, the staff, the atmosphere, the wine list, etc. This is a true fine restaurant. Alta cucina as they say in Italy. Not a trattoria or osteria that are the norm in Italy. The first time we went we ordered a la carte. There are so many fantastic appetizers, first and second courses and desserts that it is really hard to choose. But choose we did and everything was just delicious. Really the best meal I have had in Italy in 12 years of living here. And at a very reasonable price. The second time we came we opted for the prix fixe menus. They have two, one with meat and one with fish dishes. You can have 4, 7 or 9 courses. We chose the 7 course option. I had the meat and my wife the fish. What a rare treat. And the next best meal I have had in Italy. The price is 70 euros for the 7 courses. In NYC you would be talking about $200-$250 at least. What a bargain. And they pair wine with them if you wish. Speaking of wine, the list is terrific with great selections from around Italy. Reds, whites, roses and sparkling options. An unusual thing for an Italian restaurant are select offerings from other countries. Mostly French. In talking to Andrea, the young owner of Artesfizio, they also have lunch specials and will be offering a theater special for those attending the Sistina Theater right across the street. Finally, I would just like to say how welcoming and professional the staff is. One in particular lived in NYC for many years and speaks perfect English for those of you not fluent in Italian (that would include me). One final note is that in doing research before going I came across some reviews that were not all that high. I asked about them and found out that while the restaurant and name are the same as before, the ownership and the menu are new. Open for about two months. Completely different restaurant. As the recent 5 star reviews reflect. Give it a try and enjoy.
