Alpine Gourmet Prato Borni delivers the kind of dining experience that makes you feel like you’ve been handed the keys to the kitchen; in the best possible way. I absolutely loved the concept: you can mix and match dishes from the meat and vegetarian sections to build your own 4‑, 5‑, or 6‑course menu, even choosing multiple mains if you’re feeling adventurous. It’s playful, flexible, and refreshingly unpretentious for a fine‑dining setting. Every plate that arrived was beautifully presented and genuinely delicious. The trio of Swiss Wagyu beef was a standout — rich, elegant, and perfectly executed — and the pigeon was another highlight, cooked with real finesse. The local wine selection is fantastic as well, with thoughtful pairings that showcase the region without feeling predictable. The only small hiccup is the cheese trolley. It’s a charming idea, and the waitress does a wonderful job explaining each cheese in detail while guests choose whatever they like. But when one table embarks on this dairy pilgrimage, the rest of the room slows to a gentle halt. It’s not a deal‑breaker, just something to be aware of if you’re hoping for consistently attentive pacing. Overall, Prato Borni is a beautifully curated experience: creative, delicious, and distinctly Swiss in all the right ways. A memorable evening, cheese‑trolley traffic jam included. An unforgettable evening at Prato Borni in the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof. I was lucky enough to be invited for an apéro with the chef before dinner, where we enjoyed exquisite amuse-bouches accompanied by champagne — a wonderful and personal way to begin the evening. It immediately set the tone for the level of care and refinement that followed. From the first course to the final dessert, every dish was beautifully presented and executed with precision and creativity. A true highlight was the pairing of the mousseline cream soup of Aemme shrimp with the Savigny-lès-Beaune. The wine’s fine vanilla notes and elegant oak influence aligned seamlessly with the delicate sweetness and creamy texture of the soup — a perfectly harmonious combination and one of the standout moments of the evening. The wine pairings throughout were thoughtful and elevated each course effortlessly. Service was absolutely top notch — warm, attentive and highly professional, yet relaxed and genuine. The entire team made the experience feel special from start to finish. A truly exceptional dining experience in Zermatt.
