I visited Restaurant Stadel in Zermatt hoping to enjoy a classic Swiss cheese fondue experience, but left disappointed and feeling completely ripped off. The fondue was extremely basic — just a small pot of cheese with a few pieces of bread and potatoes on the side. No variety, no interesting flavors, and certainly nothing that justifies the CHF 29 per person price tag. If you want to add even the simplest extras like tomatoes or herbs, you’ll be charged even more. The portion size was surprisingly small. After finishing, I was still hungry, which is not what you expect after spending that much. On top of that, the cheese lacked depth — it tasted more like cheap melted cheese than the rich, aromatic blend fondue should be. The restaurant clearly targets tourists, but fails to deliver either authenticity or value. Save your money and go somewhere else — or better yet, buy some local cheese and make fondue yourself. It’ll be cheaper, tastier, and far more satisfying. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1 Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: CHF 30–40

However, we would like to point out that our fondue is made exclusively from high-quality regional cheese and is very well received by the majority of our guests for its authentic and traditional taste.The portion size is based on Swiss standards and is usually more then sufficient; however, guests are always welcome to order additional bread or potatoes at any time. The option to add ingredients such as tomatoes or herbs is available for those who wish to customize their fondue further, and these extras are clearly listed on the menu.Our restaurant is proud to offer an authentic Swiss experience and we are happy that this is reflected in much of the feedback we receive.
