Ho chiesto gentilmente se potevo usare il bagno. Ho problemi alla vescica e avevo bisogno urgente. Mi è stato detto che dovevo acquistare qualcosa per poterlo usare. Forse bisognerebbe valutare la singola situazione.

I am writing this on 29 July 2026. I almost never rate or review anything on Google unless I am extremely pleased with it. Today, however, I am reviewing my visit to the BP station in Melide because it was by far the worst experience I have ever had at any gas station in my 48 years. We had stopped to charge at the Tesla Supercharger across the roundabout and were looking for a toilet nearby. We went into the gas station. Since we had not used any of their other services, I went straight to the coffee machine, prepared a coffee, and took it to the counter. While paying, I politely asked the lady for the bathroom key. I even spoke Italian, as she was unwilling to speak English. Because our whole family of four had entered the shop, she asked how many of us wanted to use the bathroom. I replied that all of us did, as we had just entered Switzerland from Italy on our way to Austria. She told me I would have to buy more items if more than one person was going to use the toilet. I kindly offered to pay a separate fee for it, but of course they cannot charge separately for the toilet. We decided that only our 8-year-old would use the toilet and the rest of us would find somewhere else along the way. I therefore told the lady at the counter that only one person would use the toilet and that I would simply pay for the coffee. She became rude and insisted that we needed to pay for the toilet or we could not use it. We had to wait for the key to be returned by previous users. When I escorted my 8-year-old son to the toilet, the lady followed us. While I was waiting outside and my son was inside, she took the key out of the door and gave it to the next person in line (a woman with her two sons), telling her not to let me enter the toilet. I am of Hungarian ethnicity and speak several languages. I thought that if I addressed the first person I met in this country in one of Switzerland’s official languages, she would treat me with the same respect I showed when I entered the shop. I did not get this lady’s name, but from other reviews it appears she has mood swings and treats customers as if they were third-world homeless people rather than customers. I have been to thousands of gas stations in my life where the toilet is kept locked for good reason. Yet if you ask the employee for the key politely — in their own language — you always get it, no questions asked. For someone who has just entered the country, an experience like this creates a lasting impression of the hospitality here. Thanks for nothing BP station in Melide Switzerland!!! Make sure you keep that nice lady at the counter and you slowly run out of business!
