We recently went on the Bologna Market food market tour with Helena and had fantastic day exploring the local produce. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Bologna. Helena was incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. The food portions were very generous and we got to experience a variety of food, plus I had the best coffee in Italy there. My wife and I spent an incredible day touring throughout the hills south of Bologna, it was the highlight of our stay in the region! We started at Caseificio Rosola, a parmigiano reggiano producer known for their special parmigiano produced from the milk of the bianca modenese cows. After watching the actual production of the cheese we were treated to a tasting that was out of this world. Needless to say we bought some parmigiano reggiano to take home with us! Our next stop was at Prosciuttificio Leonardi, a leading prosciutto producer 30 minutes away. After an hour of touring the production plant, we headed upstairs to a lovely dining room where we were treated to an incredible pasta lunch that featured the most incredible charcuterie board we've ever seen and tasted, served to us by the owner and staff of the prosciuttificio. We ended our day with a tour and tasting at a legendary balsamic vinegar producer Acetaia Villa San Donnino. Simply the best balsamic you'll find on the grounds of a classic Italian villa. Do yourself a favor and set up a day of wine touring with Helena. She's an incredibly knowledgeable guide with an stable of local producers who she knows well, enabling her to give you the "behind the scenes" access and tasting experience that goes beyond the normal tourist offering. You'll have a fun day and you'll taste the best parmigiano, prosciutto, and balsamic Italy has to offer!
Helena was the absolute best guide for exploring the culinary delights of Modena! We couldn't have gotten any more up-close to the production of authentic parmigiana reggiano and balsamico.
