It took me a while to decide whether to write this review because I wasn’t sure how to rate our experience. We planned to come to Sukošan for dinner but hadn’t decided where to eat. We’ve dined in Sukošan before and always had a wonderful experience. We chose Stara Riva because the surroundings were quiet and the location right by the water looked lovely. When we arrived, the restaurant was almost empty. We asked where we could sit, and the waitress simply gestured “anywhere,” so we chose a table for four. A few moments later, she came over and asked us to move to a table for two instead. While that wasn’t a problem, I found it a bit odd since we had specifically asked where we should sit. We selected another table, but it was positioned right on the edge of the patio, so we moved it slightly to avoid sitting right next to the gravel. Once again, the waitress came over and told us that moving the table didn’t leave her enough room to walk between the tables. We suggested that perhaps the neighboring table could be moved instead, as there was much more space on that side. By this point, I felt genuinely unwelcome and uncomfortable. It seemed as though everything we did was somehow wrong. Please make your guests feel welcome and comfortable in your establishment. We ordered the Orada Special, which came with potatoes and spinach, grilled vegetables, and a cabbage slaw. I cannot fault the food at all. It wasn’t extraordinary, but it was simple, fresh, homemade-style food, and it was very good. Unfortunately, good food alone isn’t enough. Front-of-house staff are just as important, if not more so, because they shape the overall dining experience. Sadly, because of the service we received, I won’t be returning, nor will I recommend this restaurant to my friends, family, or acquaintances.
