I randomly stumbled upon Sisters Kurtoš & Ice Cream while walking around Zagreb today, and I am so incredibly glad I did. If you are looking for a unique, high-quality dessert that goes way beyond your standard scoop of ice cream, this is absolutely the place to visit. I decided to try one of their signature chimney cakes (Kürtőskalács), and it did not disappoint. I ordered mine rolled in roasted hazelnuts and topped with pistachio apricot ice cream. The texture of the chimney cake itself was phenomenal—it was baked to perfection, meaning it was really crispy and crunchy on the outside while still holding that fresh, warm, doughy structure on the inside. The flavor combination was incredibly well-balanced. Sometimes these types of desserts can be overwhelmingly sweet, but this one hit the perfect note. The rich, earthy flavor of the pistachio ice cream was cut beautifully by the bright, tangy twist of the apricot. Pairing that cold, creamy soft-serve with the warm, crispy, nutty hazelnut cone created a fantastic contrast of temperatures and textures in every single bite. It is a solid mix of warm, cold, crunchy, and nutty that just works.
