I really don't understand absurd comments some people leave for Šišmiš restaurant. First of all, Croatian islands were always expensive, even in old Yugoslavia, because they are more beautiful and exclusive than mainland. Second, restaurants in secluded coves, with beautiful view and romantic atmosphere are usually more expensive. Third, everything on islands all over the world is more expensive than on the mainland. I hope there is no need to explain why. And fourth, wild first class fish (zubatac, šanpjer etc.) is expensive, because it is rare and someone has to catch it. In a restaurant it could cost between 85-100 euros per kg. So usually they tell you how much it weights approx. before grilling it and you could calculate for yourself how much it would cost you. For this kind of fish for two people, you could expect to pay at least 100 euros or more. Now about the reasturant Šišmiš... It is the most amazing, beautiful place, high up on the terace with a gorgeous view. They gave us the most romantic table. Our waiter Gordan was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Food was coming out in timely manner, we didn't wait long for anything. And it all tasted sublime, starters, grilled fish, side dishes, salad, sweets. Presentation was also nice. So my conclusion is, the problem is not that Šišmiš is expensive, the problem is that it is not for you. Some people today rent a sailboat and cram maximum number of people so they pay less per person. Then they want free mooring in one of the most beautiful coves in Adriatic and expect to order grilled chicken breast for 10 euros. I have solution for you, go to Vodice, or some other place on the mainland, it is cheaper there. Or even better, go rent a camper, not a sailboat, go to a camp, fish and cook for yourself. It is going to be way cheaper. Leave this beautiful place for people who are ready to pay for exclusiveness and high quality.
