As a beer nerd, wherever I am in the world, I like to seek out locally brewed craft beersand it’s very rarely the case that an Irish bar is the best place to do that. But in the case of Samobor, it seems the best selection of craft beer can indeed be found at Scout Club Irish Pub. I’d done my research (on Untappd) before we undertook a day trip to Samobor from Zagreb in early January 2026, and this place stood out as a must-visit. Like any respectable Irish pub it had Guinness on tap, as well as a selection of O’Hara beers, European lagers and a Belgian fruit beer. A few taps were also devoted to Croatian-brewed beers. However, the main draw for me was the huge selection of canned and bottled Croatian craft beers in the fridges. There were several pages in the beer menu devoted to Croatian craft brews; from breweries such as The Garden Brewery, Nova Runda, Pulfer, Zmajska, Varionica, Mlinarica, Medvedgrad and Lepi Dečki. They weren’t all available (some of the more popular options had sold out), but many of them were. So on a bitterly cold January afternoon we made the 5-10 minute walk from the central King Tomislav Square and found ourselves in a warm, cosy, Irish/English-style pub. Irish paraphernalia (Guinness mirrors, posters etc.) adorned the walls, Spanish La Liga football highlights played on the TV screens. Prices were as expected for the beer on offer; €4-6 for many of the craft cans and €8-10 for some of the more unusual/seasonal offerings. I had a couple of cans; Nova Runda’s “Beer Cake: Mango & Ginger Lemonpie” pastry sour (I told you I was a beer nerd!) and Pulfer’s “Mighty Gorgon” hazy New England pale ale. The best selection of Croatian craft beer in Samobor! Price per person: €10–15 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
