Restaurant Schmiedstube reopened recently (late 2023, I think) with new owners. I went today for the first time for lunch. We were really impressed! The “menu salad” that’s included with the lunch specials comes in a very large bowl (for two) and you toss it and plate it yourselves. It was easily two generous servings per person. For lunch we ordered ravioli and quiche. Both far exceeded our expectations and were extraordinarily delicious. The pasta was served with a delicious herby sauce and snips of thin asparagus and halved cherry tomatoes and was stuffed with a moist pesto filling. The quiche was with artichoke and Gorgonzola. It was exceptionally light and fluffy, with a flaky pastry. Alongside the generous slice of quiche were sautéed snow peas and red peppers with a tasty seasoning. Dessert is included and today it was a lemon mousse with a drizzle of kahlua and whipped cream. The food is really far beyond any place I have been in the Zurich area for a long while. Each plate is a thing of beauty and clearly everything is made from scratch and the freshest of ingredients. I would give it more stars if I could. We sat outside in the glorious sunshine and couldn’t get over that this gem of a restaurant in the old town of Bülach is just a 5 minute walk from home. I’m already planning to go back tomorrow!
