I had dinner at Restaurant Schiff in May of 2026 and had a good experience. The restaurant was surprisingly quiet around 6pm on a Sunday although by the time I left it was about half full. The menu was surprisingly sparse with just a couple of entree options. Later the waiter explained they have a reduced menu on Sundays. But many restaurants are closed altogether on Sundays in Basel, so can't complain! I had the perch, which was quite good. Wasn't sure what to expect - in Canada where I am from we have lake perch which are quite different (and more delicious) than ocean perch. These ones were presumably lake perch - or equivalent - and we're great. Although the batter started to feel a bit heavy after eating a few of them; there was an option for panko-crusted which in retrospect I think I would have preferred. The location is fantastic - right on the river that borders Germany and my table was overlooking the water. Fantastic atmosphere. Located in Rheinfelden, it's about a 20 minute on the train from Basel. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We have been to Restaurant Schiff several times every time we visit Rhinefelden. The restaurant is located right by the Rhine looking toward the bridge that crosses in Germany. The food has always been excellent. For this visit, we had crispy fried perch, which comes with a large deconstructed salad and a large side of crispy French fries. The French fries came with a delish, housemade red pepper dipping sauce. The housemade bread also came with housemade red pepper butter. We also ordered a cauliflower veloute, which was creamy and delicious. The staff has always been attentive and friendly. I would recommend Restaurant Schiff when visiting Rhinefelden. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: CHF 30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
