A wonderful traditional Swiss experience. We took a boat ride from Lucerne and disembarked at Rutli for lunch here. It was a Swiss highlight for us on many levels. The history of Rutli as the spot where Switzerland was originally established in 1291 was great. The Rutlihaus restaurant, located a 10 minute walk on an uphill trail from the Rutli boat dock, honors this historic event. The barley cream soup was truly fantastic as were the views of Lake Lucerne. Service provided by Mark, was perfect. Their carrot cake was unique, almost like a dense cheesecake with carrotcake spices. Overall, we loved the 2 hours that we spent in Rutli. Seeing their beautiful hairy cows, just like those in Scotland, was a pleasant surprise too. Highly recommended! I loved this place! I got a seat on the front terrace, with a breathtaking lake view. I asked for a traditional bier and I got a locally produced Grütli bier, which was excellent. Then I asked for meatballs with mashed potatoes. That was tasty. The staff is purely friendly and the waiting time is not long at all.
