Restaurant Rössli, December 2024 I had reserved a table for 7:00 p.m. by phone at the beginning of the week. The owner said when making the reservation that the table would be ready at 7pm, which was perfectly fine with us. However, it wasn't mentioned to us on the phone that this was because a small group would be using one part of the restaurant until 7 p.m. We would have found this information helpful in order to better assess the situation. On the evening in question, we arrived about 15 minutes early - a time difference that is quite common in restaurants. When we were greeted by a friendly employee, we immediately apologized for our early arrival and offered to wait or have an aperitif in another area until our table was ready. The employee assured us with a smile that a table was now available. We sat down, looked forward to a lovely evening and thought the matter had been resolved. But a short time later the owner personally came to our table. He was obviously annoyed and told us in a sharp tone that we had arrived early, even though he had given us a time of 7:00 p.m. over the phone. We tried again to defuse the situation, apologized again and agreed to change tables later if necessary. Instead of accepting our concessions, the owner became increasingly aggressive. He lectured us loudly in front of all the guests about the rules of catering and explained that customers also had to adhere to the rules. When I cautiously suggested that these topics could be addressed more politely, he lost his temper. He yelled at us that he wouldn't serve us and asked us to leave immediately. As we left the restaurant, he followed us to the cloakroom, continued to swear loudly and approached me in such an aggressive tone and at such a short distance from me that I felt physically threatened. My companion and I were both visibly intimidated and no longer felt safe. It was a disturbing experience that was very unpleasant. When I commented that misconduct was not an isolated incident and that we had heard other feedback, he simply responded with the comment: "We have enough other guests." Even if we had arrived at exactly 7:00 p.m., our table would probably not have been ready, as the previous company was still there and in good spirits when we left (around 6:55 p.m.).
