Experience of December 26, 2023. This trattoria, which gives a nod to a modern tavern, is a great innovation in Taranto food and wine. Atmosphere: very simple and characteristic. You will not feel like you are in Milan, but right in Taranto! For me, really, very nice! Menu: small, but it guarantees that the kitchen is able to manage it as best as possible and leaves the customer happy. Without forgetting that a reduced menu is often synonymous with freshness. Simple dishes, but they bring a bit of freshness and novelty. They demonstrate that just one more ingredient, used well, is enough to innovate in this tired, monotonous and banal Taranto restaurant. Wine list: finally someone who has a bit of cunning that also brings advantages to the customer. They only have wines from Paolo Leo, therefore local wines, at the right cost and which are pleasant and technically quite correct, therefore aligned with the context. Paolo Leo also makes 0.375ml bottles and they have them! For those who drink alone it is the best solution. Service: right times, no exaggerated waiting, the waiter is attentive and kind. He gives the impression of being new in this sector, but everything is forgiven due to the great effort he puts into it. Only a matter of time. Now my personal considerations: For me Taranto is a great disappointment from many points of view. In the Piccola Trattoria da Zio Mimmo you can breathe the air of people who want to elevate themselves from the classic Tarantino "I don't care" or from fleecing customers as many do. You can also perceive it in their way of speaking. They are simple people who have not embraced the prehistoric ways of Taranto (the fair of "eeeeeeee"s here and there who make the city seem like a jungle full of primates). They have worked hard and manage to live (NOT survive) next to one of the great pillars of Taranto catering. For me, the utmost respect and I wish him to continue like this. Here, they are the demonstration that with strength and will and a truly pinch of inventiveness you can achieve great results. Just a note for the good and kind cook: a little more meticulous in the cooking methods of the risotto and the cooking level of the first courses :P We will definitely see each other again and thank you for the beautiful Boxing Day you gave me and my little family.
