If you want to be humiliated and treated like a joke, go to this location in Brela. Besides the fact that you cannot pay by card, after being ripped off by the ATMs in the area with a fee of almost 6%, at this place you will literally—not figuratively—receive a handful of small coins in 10-cent pieces if you dare to pay with banknotes. When I refused to continue purchasing the products after seeing this mockery, the saleswomen became angry and told me that it was no longer possible and that I had to accept that handful of coins to take with me to the beach. I get the impression that there is some level of complicity from the Croatian authorities with these possible tax evaders, because otherwise there is no explanation for why a country that considers itself European tolerates a situation where you can only pay in cash, while in all other countries it is mandatory for merchants to also offer card payment options. A disgrace of a shop!

"I asked for a chocolate donut but was given a jam donut instead. When I pointed out the mistake, the staff member claimed she had repeated the order back to me. I ordered chocolate, she gave me jam—there is absolutely no similarity in how those words sound. It felt like a deliberate 'trick' rather than an honest mistake. Later, I noticed they served takeaway coffee and asked for a cappuccino. She flatly refused, claiming they didn't have it, which is absurd for a busy seaside bakery selling coffee to go. It was clear that the poor service was personal and targeted. Treating customers differently based on where they are from is completely unprofessional. Xenophobia is exhausting, and I expected much better hospitality.
