Delicious food, friendly and attentive staff. The menu seems to change daily (at least often) with many interesting options. The restaurant space is a bit dark (as is fashionable) - I however appreciate a bit more light. Will go again! Another terrible place pretending to be Italian without having a clue about real Italian food! This is a call to all Italians in Basel: don't go there, I had a terrible experience! I reserved a table for two people one week in advance, but when I arrived, I had to wait because my table wasn't ready. It was incredibly hot inside, and I expected to have a table outside, but all the tables were occupied. While waiting, I had a drink, which was quite good, but the worst part was yet to come: the main meal. I ordered penne alla vodka and my friend had spaghetti with frutti di mare. My penne were barely edible, drowning in a sea of cream. The taste was decent, though. On the other hand, my friend's spaghetti was probably the worst I've ever had. They cost 40 CHF and the quality was awful. It looked like frozen seafood, chopped into pieces, bought from Migros, with maybe 50 grams of overcooked pasta. It seemed more like an antipasto of frutti di mare with some spaghetti thrown in by mistake. It was a horrible experience. I complained to the waitress, who was sorry to hear that, but when it came time to pay, she didn't say much, and of course, I didn't get any discount (my friend basically didn't eat anything). Visiting HOSTARIA for the first time - and definitely not the last time. Is a homely restaurant. It's impressive what the kitchen has to offer - considering the tight space. The host team does a great job. (PS: very close to 5 stars) Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: CHF 70–80 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
