Cena tra amici, con un bimbo piccolo. Abbiamo scelto il menù Red, 6 portate con 3 piattini a portata, ogni boccone raccontava un viaggio diverso. Molto bella e abbondante il piatto per il bambino. Esperienza e serata molto piacevole, staff preparato, cordiale e molto disponibile. Locale curato e accogliente. Serata top! Ristorante davvero spettacolare nel centro di Rovigno sotto alla chiesa tra le tipiche stradine della città. Cibo eccellente che merita la sua stella Michelin! Abbiamo optato per il menu degustazione per avere una carrellata delle loro proposte e siamo rimasti entusiasti. Ottimi i piatti a base di pesce. We were honestly so excited about dining at Monte and really wanted to love it. But after thinking about it carefully, we're sticking with 3 stars because of some big problems you just can't overlook at this price and prestige level. The Good Stuff In short, there were plenty of highlights. The setting is amazing—it's a beautiful spot right at the top of Rovinj's old town. We loved the sophisticated interior design, the huge wine list, and the cool idea behind their three menu choices. Plus, even when the restaurant was full, it wasn't loud, and our sommelier did an excellent job picking out a perfect wine for us. What Let Us Down All menus started with the same introductory dish, which was incredibly delicious and set the bar really high. My partner had the Red Menu and I chose the Green (Vegetarian) Menu. Unfortunately, that amazing start might have been the issue, because what followed was, in parts, severely disappointing. 1. Value Disparity My partner's Red Menu was overall very good, with only a few items being just slightly above average. However, the value felt off: the Red Menu featured three distinct small dishes per course, while the Green Menu, which cost almost the same, offered only one dish per course. It felt like we were getting much less value for the vegetarian option. 2. Quality and Service Failure (The Green Menu) The biggest issue was the totally unacceptable first course on the Green Menu. It was a dish of tomatoes and avocado ice cream, but the ice cream was rock hard. I actually needed a knife to cut it, which is just ridiculous for a restaurant like this. When I told the server, her response was so dismissive. She just said she hoped my next course would be better. Zero apology, no offer to fix it, nothing. That left us pretty speechless. Even cheap places know how to handle a mistake like that! We don't expect a huge discount, but a simple, "I'm so sorry, let me bring out a properly tempered ice cream," or "Can I offer you a coffee on the house?" would have been so easy and appropriate. The second course, gnocchi with beetroot and horseradish foam, was another low point. Everything tasted like bland beetroot with close to no spices being used (and I actually love beetroot!), and the foam was completely flavorless. Final Thoughts While the dishes that followed were generally good (and a couple were great), the vegetarian offering as a whole is way below the standard you should expect at this kind of restaurant and for this high price. Ultimately, we're not sure if we'd go back. That's less about the food inconsistencies and more about the poor way the service team handled a clear mistake. A place trying to be this high-end needs to nail the food and how they fix problems. They failed on the latter.
