You were simply told that consuming food brought from home in a restaurant in front of people who were paying to consume the same thing (in this case sandwiches) was certainly not respectful towards them. And it was told to you without any rude tone (had we not said anything we would certainly have been thought of as very kind and nice...). You also wrote that you were not the only ones and for this reason perhaps it was time to ask us if there was a way to have the possibility of consuming food brought from home or, better yet, if we could prepare food for your children ourselves. (maybe, perhaps by notifying us in advance, as many of our other customers do...). We have many guests who have this type of problem but usually let us know, both out of respect for us and for those who sit next to them. Simply ask and, if we can, we will help you in any way.
