We arrived with 2 young children at 8 p.m., after a very long journey, to the welcoming village that the family has been visiting for 40 years - Chandolin. We went to the Chalet, a restaurant that we visited in a very large group last summer, where the experience was very pleasant, both in terms of service and meals. This time, we had to wait a long time standing before someone was polite enough to welcome us. We ended up being welcomed and asked for a table for 4. The immediate response was that without a reservation it was impossible, everything was full. Before our eyes was erected a superb and enormous counter, empty. When we ask if we can sit at the counter, the waiter tells us that they don't serve food at the counter. Following this, we ask if we can take something to take away, since after such a long trip and with the children, we just wanted to eat something. The waiter dared to tell us that “there wouldn’t be any left for the others” if he served us food! Such a far-fetched excuse is an attack on a client’s intellectual integrity. Selling us 3 meals would have put the restaurant out of stock?!? Demeaning ourselves even more, with supplication, we insist if we can take anything. The waiter asks us to wait since he has to check in the kitchen if the chef agrees to make us 3 pizzas to take away (they normally practice this business method). He came back, sorry that he couldn't sell us these pizzas because there were a lot of pizza orders. We didn’t actually have a reservation, but we were also so visibly vulnerable and “open to anything” that, even if we had had to wait half an hour to get pizzas to go, we would have done it. It’s deplorable to be welcomed like this. Especially in the low season the attitude was completely different. Soul and hospitality, especially in the catering sector, are the ingredients of success. Your trip was surely very long, almost as long as our days of more than 12 hours, 6 days a week, with Full service for the majority.. Our stocks are also limited, homemade and with limited storage capacities, especially since we do not deliver on Sundays. For information, we had 23 place settings to serve after 8 p.m. and we ended the service at 78 place settings and 60 place settings at midday. To complete the whole thing, one person from my team is off work and the waiter who welcomed you is now alone in the room with an extra who has no training in catering or service and tries her best to be everywhere for customers by doing a great job despite being tired. We do our best to serve as many customers as possible during this busy period, but we remain human beings with all the constraints that this implies.
