What I loved about LOCANDA MASER: 1- Some Italians still use the term "Locanda" to address a place where one can eat and sleep or simply stop and drink some coffee. It's an old fashioned but very sweet way to call an hotel & restaurant these days. 2- I am a biker/rider and I usually ride long distances. This is a perfect place to stay for those who are not too demanding, park their bikes safely inside the property, have a warm (and reasonably priced) dinner, refresh, sleep, have breakfast (very basic though), and leave again. 3- The hosts are friendly, polite, helpful and fun to talk with. I arrived late in the evening and there was Mr Davide waiting for me, sitting outside the property and singing along with the TV on, which was playing old songs from the 1960'-70'. He handed over the key to me, opened the back yard, where he invited me to park inside, suggesting the right spot under a roof, just in case rain would have fallen and, after taking me upstairs to the room he said "Don't worry you can pay for the room tomorrow". I said to myself: "what wonderful person he is! Hard to find one these days" 4- I slept in a small and a bit dark room but towels were clean and so was the (tiny) single bad. But guys.. I was so tired that I could have slept even on stones . 5- The morning after I walked down to the breakfast area and I was welcomed by a smiling lady asking me what I wanted to drink. I said "please can I have a cappuccino? "... And while she was making it she gently pointed to a table with packed cakes and freshly made ones. There were also packed fruit juices but that's nothing for me so I passed it. Cappuccino was good and so the cake. Yes, sure, I can't deny that with a bit of more effort (and little more money) the host could prepare a more attractive breakfast, maybe a boiled egg and a slice of bread and butter... But that I leave it to them to think over 6- I went back to my room, packed everything and walked dstairs ready to go. At this point I met Franz ( Davide's brother) - who by the way, the night before, had also handed me over a warm blanket due to my feeling pretty cold after riding for ours during that night. So, Franz is the one I paid my room to and, with a smile he asked me if I had had breakfast already. I said: "Yes I did, but if you want to make another coffee for me I'll highly appreciate it". "Of course I can make a coffee for you Sir"... he said and there he disappeared behind the espresso machine. With coffee in my hand and sipping it slowly we start a nice conversation on his & my life and then he tells me a bit of the story of Locanda Maser. I asked him: "Why is it that you score so low on Booking and that even reviews turn down your property so badly?".. And he says that the reason is "People these days are unreasonable, they are frustrated and unhappy (true I said to myself while he was talking), they have high expectations while demanding to pay for it the minimum possible. This Locanda has been here for nearly a century and yes, I understand that we could renovate it and make it a 3-4 stars hotel. But what for? People would then still complain about something because that's people's nature nowadays..... So we prefer to keep it like this, simple, maybe a bit funnily spooky for some (and he smiles) but with no stress from our side. We like it this way and if our guests complain because we charge them half of the price they would pay in a better propriety, I don't understand why they come to us ... (smiling again). 7- Those words made me think a lot..... Yes, people usually tend to complain when they are unhappy and this is so much so in this frenetic and self-created busy life. Being humble and unpretentious are rare qualities to be found in people these days. 8- Could I therefore have the right to complain if my room was a bit dark, the bed perhaps too short (but clean) and the breakfast was not the one I usually have at my home? Would I stay again at Locanda Maser when passing by this area when I know that for Eur 35- I can sleep, have a good chat and leave? Service: 5
