Absolutely unforgettable – the most distinctive and flavorful wines I’ve ever tasted Even growing up surrounded by the legendary vineyards of Sonoma and Napa Valley, nothing prepared me for the magic of Vina Carić on Hvar. The sandstone-influenced soils here create wines of extraordinary character—mineral-driven, intensely aromatic, and layered with a pure sense of place that feels completely unique. The drainage and the way the vines struggle just enough in this Mediterranean terroir produce concentration and complexity I simply haven’t experienced elsewhere. Every sip carries the sun, sea, and stone of the island in a way that is both elegant and powerfully expressive. Danijela was the perfect host. Warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate, she guided us through the tasting with stories about the indigenous varieties, the family history, and the specific vineyard sites. Her explanations brought every glass to life, and her recommendations for pairings made the experience even richer. The setting in the konoba is charming and relaxed—exactly what a special wine tasting should feel like. If you care about wines that truly taste of where they come from, put Vina Carić at the top of your list. Danijela and the Carić family deliver something rare and memorable. Five stars without hesitation—I’ll be dreaming about these bottles long after I leave Croatia.

Carić Winery is a wonderful place to discover the unique grape varieties of Hvar and learn about the island’s rich winemaking tradition. We received a very warm welcome and enjoyed an exceptional wine tasting paired with local prosciutto, cheeses, and olive oil. Each one of their wines tells a warm story of the family’s heritage, presented in a playful local dialect that makes the experience even more authentic and memorable. What we appreciated most was the opportunity to learn directly from the winemaker herself, whose passion and knowledge truly brought each wine to life. A warm recommendation to anyone who wants to experience the wines, culture, and traditions of Hvar in a genuine and personal way!

We visited Carić Winery as a group of six and booked easily via WhatsApp with a quick response. We were the only guests, which made the tasting feel private and relaxed. Taxi was €70 for a van from the old town Hvar, on way. The wines are well rated as per Vivino (over 4 stars) and were delicious, and the host (likely the owner) gave a clear and interesting explanation of each one. We tried their cheeses and fish and ham, everything was delicious. However, the welcome felt quite reserved and not very warm, which affected the overall atmosphere. Afterwards, we enjoyed a nice walk around the village, called “little Venice,” which is worth visiting.
