After being away from my hometown for four months, we couldn’t wait to visit Dorka for their excellent coffee and what used to be the best cakes, but our visit turned into a nightmare. Due to an allergy, I ended up in the ER because of the dangerous, cheap vegetable whipped cream on the cake. Accustomed to their until-recently excellent cakes and pastries made with real dairy cream, I didn't even ask—nor did I expect—that garbage of a so-called whipped cream. I have never experienced anything like this here, nor have I ever seen a lack of real chocolate ganache on a cake. This glaze is not the ganache I’m used to; it’s a cheap, overly sweet cream with no flavor at all. The chestnut cake is everything except chestnut—between three layers of sponge, there are two layers of cheap white margarine cream and a half-centimeter layer of chestnut that we couldn't even taste. This is now the worst pastry shop in Varaždin, and the most expensive considering the cheap ingredients. Not all of us are ignorant, especially those of us who visited at least three times a week for years, bringing guests from abroad whom we will never invite or recommend this place to again. Kavana Dorka is located in the Arbia Dorka Heritage Palace, where we stayed during the Advent events in beautiful Varaždin. For the last morning after breakfast I decided to have coffee and cake. I was very pleased. They have a lot of cakes to choose from in this nice and cozy place. The waitress, who is also an employee of this establishment, was kind and helpful. I recommend Kavana Dorka!
