A bitter taste ruining a wonderful trip. After walking the velebit trail we decided to stop here for a night before reaching our final end point in starigrad. We were hungry and tired and wanted a final beautiful night in the mountains. Sadly the signs were a lie and I am devastated by the taste this place has left in my mouth after such a wonderful time in Croatia both in the mountains and down on the coast. We arrived and asked for a room to stay and were shown to a small attic space with no electricity, lighting or beds. But given that we had our sleeping bags and roll mats we said it would be fine as we assumed, given the lack of amenities that it would be cheap as had been our experience along our mountain trail. We were shown the toilet which was an outhouse a five minute walk from the attic room, again fine. We were shown no shower facilities. We ordered a couple of beers which arrived and it was cans not bottles but that’s no problem, we were just happy to have a beer and assumed it would be in line with the prices we’d been paying (between €2-2.50). We asked about food (having seen the great pictures on the signs on the way there) and we were given the choice of meat goulash or meat and bean soup. My partner ordered the goulash but I’m a vegetarian so asked if there was another option at all. I was offered macaroni and cheese which sounded like a good choice compared to rehydrated camp food again. What arrived was nothing close to what the signs show. The goulash was a plate of plain pasta with a big spoon of meat and gravy slopped on top. The veggie option was not a mac and cheese but plain boiled pasta and a plate of grated cheese - not even mixed together and heated to melt the cheese through. But, we were hungry, tired and assumed it would be cheap given the quality of this food compared to some of the wonderful meals we’d already had in the mountains and in split. During our meal, another couple nearby (the only other people there) were sharing a bowl of goulash and one of them got up and went inside to where our cutlery had come from, seemingly going to use the toilet. While we were eating someone went inside to seemingly use a toilet. I went to see if that was another toilet after eating my meal as it was far closer than the one we had been shown as our option. There was not only a toilet here, indoors, but a shower which we had not been shown (and no this was not part of the owners home). Right next door was a 4 bed bunk bed dorm room fully made up for guests! Why we had been immediately shown to an attic floor when a room was right here was beyond me. After dinner we went to set up our sleeping stuff and decided to go and settle up our payments then as we were leaving early in the morning. I went down to pay and the man was rude and shouty with me. He gave me a written bill where I had to check repeatedly if it was correct. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. To say it was a rip off would be an understatement!! For a plate of plain pasta and a side plate of cheese he wanted €10 euros, for a plate of plain pasta with a slopping of mediocre meat described as goulash he wanted €12, each cheap, canned beer was €4. The final blow was that our nights stay with no bed, no indoor toilet, no shower, no plug sockets and not even a light was going to be €40 euros! For comparison, a nights stay in the mountains a few nights before with a three course meal each, three drinks each, a warm bed, electricity and a shower had cost us €91 between us. This crap meal, cheap canned lager and no comforts was going to cost us €78. I’m so glad we went to pay when we did because we immediately packed our bags, paid for the food and beer and ran down the mountain to get to starigrad before dark where we paid €50 for a room with a shower, bed, comforts, cooking facilities and a balcony overlooking the mountains. This isn’t just ‘mountain prices’, we walked the velebit trail and experienced mountain prices. This was just a rip off. Service: 1

DO NOT GO HERE! if you’re a hiker like we are and are expecting a mountain shelter at a reasonable price with some food this isn’t it. We arrived as our last evening hiking 5 days through Velebit. We were sat down and welcomed but couldn’t get any answer on prices. We were shown a small shack room with no beds and or electricity which the guy wanted €40 for! The food we had was plain pasta which again was €12 which is absolutely insane. Again wouldn’t be mentioned until after we’d agreed to eat. Once we told the guy we weren’t in fact staying he became very aggressive about the price. Place is an absolute scam and you can get a friendlier nicer experienced anywhere else. Avoid this place at all costs if you’re a hiker and not wanting to be scammed at the start or end of your hike. Service: 1
