Ronco sopra Ascona is a small town on the shores of Lake Maggiore. The lake is really beautiful, clean and in the summer months you can find pleasant refreshment here. Here you will find several hotels for accommodation and a few restaurants. The restaurants here are of high quality, whether you are a fan of pizza, good pasta or fresh fish caught in the local lake. We tried four restaurants and even though each one is a little different, we were always extremely satisfied. We stayed at Boutique hotel La Rocca, where I must highlight the attitude of the staff, which is really fantastic. The hotel is nice, clean and well maintained. Here you will find a great restaurant with a beautiful view of the lake. If the weather isn't good, you can use the indoor pool (we didn't use it), perhaps the only downside is, as I've already mentioned several times, the ubiquitous stairs. Overall, the accommodation was very pleasant and once again I want to say a big, big thank you to the wonderful staff who were very friendly and yet very professional. As for the town itself, you won't find much to do here, and if you like to walk everywhere, definitely be prepared for the ubiquitous stairs and steep roads, mostly without sidewalks, which is not pleasant in the traffic here. If you are staying in Ronco sopra Ascona, most hotels have private access to the lake with small swimming pools, otherwise you have to go further to the public swimming pool. There is also a bus station and a port where you can use the local ferry (not exactly cheap) to cruise the lake and visit nearby resorts, including the Brissago Islands, where there is a small botanical garden. As for ordinary purchases, for example, snacks for water, it's really worse. There are only two options. A small convenience store right next to the San Martino church, where there is a very limited selection, except perhaps for drinks, pastries and a few non-perishable foods, you can't buy much here and unfortunately everything at astronomical prices. The second option is the bakery on the main street, where you can have a fairly decent cup of coffee in the morning and buy fresh pastries. Unfortunately, both shops close at noon, and if you're in the mood for good cheese or ham with pastries, you're out of luck. Finally, I remind you again of the stairs and hills that are present everywhere. If you're not used to it, think twice.
