If you’re in Zurich and never tried Burmese food before this is your sign. This is Mandalay Thu, one of the only Burmese restaurants in Switzerland. The story behind this place is honestly beautiful. They first started in Horgen back in 2020 under the name Haung Asian Food House and spent four years building their community there. Then in November 2025, they moved to Zurich for a fresh new chapter. And the new name? Mandalay Thu means “a lady from Mandalay.” The owner named the restaurant after his wife, who was born and raised in Mandalay, while he himself comes from Shan State. It’s literally a restaurant built on love, culture, and authenticity. Everything here feels homemade and personal, from the atmosphere to the food. And you HAVE to try their best sellers: Ohn Noe Khao Soi, rich, creamy Burmese coconut noodle soup. And Shan Khao Soi, packed with authentic Shan flavors. They also serve traditional Burmese dishes like Laphat Salad, Ginger Salad, and Rice (HTAT MIN THOKE) . And don’t leave without dessert because their Mont Lone and Sanwin Makin will seriously make you wonder why Burmese desserts are so underrated. If you want something different from the usual Asian food spots in Zurich, Mandalay Thu is the place. PS: giving them a 5 as Google doesn’t have 4.5 option & giving them 4 would be unfair given their near perfect track record here. Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
