While walking along Viale Grigoletti I come across the GRAN Gelato business and decide to take a break for a sweet and delicious break, at least so I hope. It seems like a suitable place to consume a take-away ice cream quickly: also because outside, on the wide pavement, there is an outdoor area with benches where you can sit and taste the cold specialties offered by the ice cream shop. The counter where the trays are arranged and aligned is immense; you can choose, with great embarrassment given the generous offer, between dozens of flavours. Even the appearance, beyond the quantity, is tempting. Furthermore, alongside traditional flavours, unusual proposals also stand out with combinations that stimulate the customer's imagination and curiosity. Prices are in line with those of the market and the city. Everything suggests that it is a good product but the fundamental proof is missing: the taste test. I ask for a cup with added cream: in fact the portion is generous in both ice cream and topping. I walk away and start to cut into the ice cream with the scoop and I immediately notice the rather tenacious consistency. Even the palate confirms the sensation of emblée and, indeed, adds another unpleasant one: in addition to being fairly tough, the ice cream turned out to be very cold, almost frozen, and therefore not very creamy (a quality that I appreciate very much). Also missing was a flavor that would more clearly recall the ingredients used. I believe that the food served being too cold, as well as lowering the temperature in the mouth, caused the palate to lose a little sensitivity. Basically: everything is frozen At this point I was forced to stop for a while and wait for the ice cream to partially defrost before proceeding with the tasting. I agree that it's called ice cream, but... Even the cream, generously added on top, did not impress me with its consistency and flavour, although obtained from a professional machine, I believe, in the past, to have tasted recipes with a more impressive impact (exquisitely personal opinion). Before writing this review I read that the guys on the staff have been in business for over six decades now and have also been awarded by the Pordenone Confartigianato for their 25th business anniversary. So, evidently, they are anything but improvised ice cream makers. I also realize there are dozens of reviews from very satisfied customers. Is mine a voice out of the chorus? At this point I have the doubt that I went to them at an unhappy moment so I would like to go back to visit them to check whether the sensations I had were the result of bad luck or not. For the Latins "semel in anno licet insanire": is this also true in this case? Overall, if I were to base myself on my recent experience (the only one as far as I'm concerned) I would have to say that the quality is not I was thrilled: my very personal opinion is that I tasted a mediocre ice cream, which certainly exceeds the sufficiency but which does not excel. I always say goodbye in Latin: “De gustibus” Service: Takeaway Meal type: Other Price per person: €1–10 Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
